Yay! Another eco-friendly swim/surf brand! Hakuna Wear is an American brand, based in California. The material they use for their swimwear is made from recycled fabrics and recycled plastic bottles. Jessica, the owner, contacted me to do a review, and of course, I said yes. Here’s what I think.
One of the things I love about Hakuna Wear is that they’re not only eco-friendly, but they also give back to the community. They’ve worked together with tons of NGOs, organize beach clean-ups, and have their own project “Coffee-by-the-Sea”. Find out more about their projects on their page.
Perissa One Piece by Hakuna Wear
I was happy to test out the Perissa One Piece, which has a key pocket – super handy when you go surfing! That is actually the reason why Jessica, the founder of Hakuna Wear, created her business. She realized that the swimwear market was missing functional swimsuits and bikinis. Well, I couldn’t agree more with her!
The key pocket of this suit is placed on the back. You can just tie your key to the string, place it in the pocket and close the velcro.
The material of the swimsuit feels soft but firm. And that is how it fits your body as well. It really hugs those parts that need hugging but is also flexible enough to provide freedom of movement.
When I was surfing, I didn’t notice any creeping up of the material except for the edges of the bottom. That might be because the size is a bit too big for me (I’m wearing a medium on the pic), I’m not sure.
The suit dries quickly, and thanks to the high-quality fabric, it will last you a long, long time. It stays beautiful and doesn’t lose its shape. Super sustainable!
